Postdoctoral Fellowship positions at the Connecticut Mental Health Center

The Yale University School of Medicine will offer two Postdoctoral Fellowship positions at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.
 
The position consists of a weekly division of about 70% clinical work and 30% involvement in training focused on public sector mental health administration.  The position is part of a major HUD-funded Supportive Housing Program (SHP) that serves adults who are homeless with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. The program is administered by the Community Services Network of CMHC and the Department of Psychiatry, and is a comprehensive, fully integrated, coordinated, multi-agency transitional supportive housing program that provides mental health and substance abuse treatment, transitional housing, social and vocational rehabilitation, and related community-based housing initiatives. In addition, fellows participate in administrative activities and didactics designed to enhance leadership and management skills.
 
Fellowship Components

  • Community-based treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders;
  • Advanced training and supervision in individual and group psychotherapy;
  • Seminars focused on public mental health administration, leadership in mental health systems, and healthcare leadership;
  • Educational collaboration with the Yale School of Management and VA Medical Center-West Haven;
  • Access to departmental training opportunities including grand rounds;
  • Exposure to state and university leaders in the public mental health sector with opportunities for mentoring; and
  • Project work including:
    • Design and delivery of mental health-related trainings
    • Performance of consultation projects
    • Research
    • Participation in system strategic planning and performance improvement

Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Anxiety Disorders Center

The Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital invites applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships beginning in September 2010. The Anxiety Disorders Center specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety-related problems, and applied research on the nature and treatment of anxiety. 

Each postdoctoral fellow will assume primary responsibility for clinical research projects. The current study is an NIMH-funded investigation of cognitive-behavioral therapy for adults with panic disorder. Other projects, including research on compulsive hoarding and obsessive-compulsive disorder, may be added. All fellows will assume a variety of administrative and clinical responsibilities for studies. In addition, the fellows will provide assessment and outpatient cognitive-behavioral therapy for adults, adolescents, and children in the outpatient clinic, including intensive (daily) behavior therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and school refusal behavior. Numerous opportunities exist for independent basic or applied research as well. 

Requirements: Postdoctoral applicants must have completed all requirements for the granting of the doctoral degree, including the completion of an APA-approved predoctoral internship in clinical psychology. Candidates should also have significant training and experience in cognitive-behavioral intervention for anxiety disorders.
